Save The Animals (Or Else!)

This Popular Science piece, one of "Ten Worst Jobs in Science," just felt good before it even landed on paper.  The AD and I loved the concept, and it was just up to me not to screw it up. What would it be like to face down the very species of animals whose lives depended on your deciding which of them gets public preservation funding?
