Library

Had a weird thought…everyone's going to e-books.
Yet there's something so fun about a row of vintage books
on a set of old, sagging bookshelves…

Shovelin' this

Not sure why, but I had to paint this shovel, and that shovel, now another, and another...

No time for fishin'

So while I have not had a chance to fish this summer - doesn't mean I can't paint the darn things! Here was a stab at a Tarpon, and I have never caught one of these either. Heard they're fighters and fun to reel in…well, this was one pretty fun to paint! And I didn't even have to get wet.

Depth Charge

After doing Trout Trout Trout, I have so many random lures and flies in my studio, so I tried again at painting one of the little bastards. Hooked myself two times in just getting this guy to pose just right!

Art_For_Breakfast posts on Instagram

The fun and often humiliating, if not humbling posts of Art For Breakfast Instagramers got me to do another series for them again, beginning with this post. I'm hoping to do a story on this mysterious duo, and if I land it I will post it here. In the meantime, look for more of my pieces with them, or follow my own pieces here.

Atta Buoys

One thing you notice after doing one particular interest over and over again is you make yourself try new things (mainly to keep from getting too bored?). In this case, I never see an actual buoy without some nice aging to it, wear and tear, etc. It's challenging to paint that wear, trying to get to the point where these things have seen years in the water just bobbing for days and days.

I had to become the buoy...

Traditional Homebuoys

This was a fun surprise. I don't keep up with where these pieces go, but it sure was weird seeing a spread in this month's issue of Traditional Homes with one hanging smack-dab in the middle of someone's beach family room. I hope it's not getting too much sun, I didn't put nearly as much SPF 50+ on it!

It Wasn't Me

A few steps into this heartwarming scene of a female chickadee who has seemingly caught her better half after a long night with some other birds (and some bees of the night)...

Feeling Crabby?

So back to more of this painting thing. I'm guessing you're creative if you're reading this? But one thing I've noticed is you can't plan a creative direction for yourself, ever. You can plan a course, try to take a road…but there will be something that utterly always changes your direction. Try to fight it? Sure. But I'm just saying that the creative life sometimes goes on autopilot without you wanting it to. Go with it. I never thought I'd paint until I was dared to. Now, ten galleries later, it has simply taken over. And I really can't tell you where this is going either. I just hope I have enough gas and bubblegum.

Again, autopilot.

One-Dude SHOW!

Maybe it's too close? Tomorrow (Oct 22nd), Shain Gallery, Charlotte, 6pm, there're gonna be balloons, magicians, a petting zoo, and we're even flying in that Nik Wallenda guy to tightrope walk from the top of Shain's building all the way over to Nolen's Kitchen where he'll jump off and parasail into the happy hour crowd (okay, none of this last part is true, maybe a balloon..maybe. There's just gonna be a buttload of my work all the heck over the place, that part IS true).
